working class sheilas

“Always thought that one would bang like a dunny door in the wind…”

~ Sydney Fringe Festival 2010, SGLMG Festival 2011, Adelaide Festival Festival 2011 ~

Solo theatre show written and performed by Jude Bowler, directed by Liesel Badorrek.

Growing up, getting out and getting on... A hilarious, often poignant, inter-generational family drama unfolds through one woman’s experience of a life with working-class roots and a panoply of strong female characters borne of it – rural cinema owner, security guard, an ex-pat cheerleader, each with a drive to diversify. An Australian yarn, a ditty or two, based on (mostly) true stories.

“It's a known fact that people listen more attentively to real stories and it's a brave person who exposes themselves to tell theirs. Jude Bowler's ‘Working Class Sheilas’ is a well-crafted, plucky little show which resonates long after the experience. As Jude drew us into her colourful life, she slid effortlessly between episodes of her identity not only creating empathy but making me laugh, a lot. Jude's got a lot of chutzpah and this show's a corker. It reminded me that we all need to keep telling our stories as they're the invisible threads that connect us.”
